The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers

1And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
2And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
3And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
4And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.
6Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
7But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.'
8And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
9What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
10And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
11This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
12And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.
The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?
13And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
14And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
15Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
16And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
17And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?

18Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,
19Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
20Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
21And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
22And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.
23In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
24And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
25For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
26And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
27He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?

28And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?
35And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?
36For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
37David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
Beware of the Scribes
38And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
39And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
40Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
The Widow’s Two Mites
41And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

1Então começou Jesus a falar-lhes por parábolas. Um homem plantou uma vinha, cercou-a com uma sebe, cavou um lagar, e edificou uma torre; depois arrendou-a a uns lavradores e ausentou-se do país.
2No tempo próprio, enviou um servo aos lavradores para que deles recebesse do fruto da vinha.
3Mas estes, apoderando-se dele, o espancaram e o mandaram embora de mãos vazias.
4E tornou a enviar-lhes outro servo; e a este feriram na cabeça e o ultrajaram.
5Então enviou ainda outro, e a este mataram; e a outros muitos, dos quais a uns espancaram e a outros mataram.
6Ora, tinha ele ainda um, o seu filho amado; a este lhes enviou por último, dizendo: A meu filho terão respeito.
7Mas aqueles lavradores disseram entre si: Este é o herdeiro; vinde, matemo-lo, e a herança será nossa.
8E, agarrando-o, o mataram, e o lançaram fora da vinha.
9Que fará, pois, o senhor da vinha? Virá e destruirá os lavradores, e dará a vinha a outros.
10Nunca lestes esta escritura: A pedra que os edificadores rejeitaram, essa foi posta como pedra angular;
11pelo Senhor foi feito isso, e é maravilhoso aos nossos olhos?
12Procuravam então prendê-lo, mas temeram a multidão, pois perceberam que contra eles proferira essa parábola; e, deixando-o, se retiraram.
Interrogação acerca do tributo – Mateus 22.15-22; Lucas 20.19-26
13Enviaram-lhe então alguns dos fariseus e dos herodianos, para que o apanhassem em alguma palavra.
14Aproximando-se, pois, disseram-lhe: Mestre, sabemos que és verdadeiro, e de ninguém se te dá; porque não olhas à aparência dos homens, mas ensinas segundo a verdade o caminho de Deus; é lícito dar tributo a César, ou não? Daremos, ou não daremos?
15Mas Jesus, percebendo a hipocrisia deles, respondeu-lhes: Por que me experimentais? trazei-me um denário para que eu o veja.
16E eles lho trouxeram. Perguntou-lhes Jesus: De quem é esta imagem e inscrição? Responderam-lhe: De César.
17Disse-lhes Jesus: Dai, pois, a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus. E admiravam-se dele.

18Então se aproximaram dele alguns dos saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, e lhe perguntaram, dizendo:
19Mestre, Moisés nos deixou escrito que se morrer alguém, deixando mulher sem deixar filhos, o irmão dele case com a mulher, e suscite descendência ao irmão.
20Ora, havia sete irmãos; o primeiro casou-se e morreu sem deixar descendência;
21o segundo casou-se com a viúva, e morreu, não deixando descendência; e da mesma forma, o terceiro; e assim os sete, e não deixaram descendência.
22Depois de todos, morreu também a mulher.
23Na ressurreição, de qual deles será ela esposa, pois os sete por esposa a tiveram?
24Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Porventura não errais vós em razão de não compreenderdes as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus?
25Porquanto, ao ressuscitarem dos mortos, nem se casam, nem se dão em casamento; pelo contrário, são como os anjos nos céus.
26Quanto aos mortos, porém, serem ressuscitados, não lestes no livro de Moisés, onde se fala da sarça, como Deus lhe disse: Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó?
27Ora, ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos. Estais em grande erro.

29Respondeu Jesus: O primeiro é: Ouve, Israel, o Senhor nosso Deus é o único Senhor.
30Amarás, pois, ao Senhor teu Deus de todo o teu coração, de toda a tua alma, de todo o teu entendimento e de todas as tuas forças.
31E o segundo é este: Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo. Não há outro mandamento maior do que esses.
32Ao que lhe disse o escriba: Muito bem, Mestre; com verdade disseste que ele é um, e fora dele não há outro;
33e que amá-lo de todo o coração, de todo o entendimento e de todas as forças, e amar o próximo como a si mesmo, é mais do que todos os holocaustos e sacrifícios.
34E Jesus, vendo que havia respondido sabiamente, disse-lhe: Não estás longe do reino de Deus. E ninguém ousava mais interrogá-lo.
O Cristo, Filho de Davi – Mateus 22.41-46; Lucas 20.41-44
35Por sua vez, Jesus, enquanto ensinava no templo, perguntou: Como é que os escribas dizem que o Cristo é filho de Davi?
36O próprio Davi falou, movido pelo Espírito Santo: Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te à minha direita, até que eu ponha os teus inimigos debaixo dos teus pés.
37Davi mesmo lhe chama Senhor; como é ele seu filho? E a grande multidão o ouvia com prazer.
Jesus censura os escribas – Mateus 23.1-12; Lucas 20.45-47
38E prosseguindo ele no seu ensino, disse: Guardai-vos dos escribas, que gostam de andar com vestes compridas, e das saudações nas praças,
39e dos primeiros assentos nas sinagogas, e dos primeiros lugares nos banquetes,
40que devoram as casas das viúvas, e por pretexto fazem longas orações; estes hão de receber muito maior condenação.
A oferta da viúva pobre – Lucas 21.1-4
41E sentando-se Jesus defronte do cofre das ofertas, observava como a multidão lançava dinheiro no cofre; e muitos ricos deitavam muito.
42Vindo, porém, uma pobre viúva, lançou dois leptos, que valiam um quadrante.
43E chamando ele os seus discípulos, disse-lhes: Em verdade vos digo que esta pobre viúva deu mais do que todos os que deitavam ofertas no cofre;
44porque todos deram daquilo que lhes sobrava; mas esta, da sua pobreza, deu tudo o que tinha, mesmo todo o seu sustento.

1 Entonces comenzó Jesús a decirles por parábolas: Un hombre plantó una viña, la cercó de vallado, cavó un lagar, edificó una torre, y la arrendó a unos labradores, y se fue lejos.
2 Y a su tiempo envió un siervo a los labradores, para que recibiese de éstos del fruto de la viña.
3 Mas ellos, tomándole, le golpearon, y le enviaron con las manos vacías.
4 Volvió a enviarles otro siervo; pero apedreándole, le hirieron en la cabeza, y también le enviaron afrentado.
5 Volvió a enviar otro, y a éste mataron; y a otros muchos, golpeando a unos y matando a otros.
6 Por último, teniendo aún un hijo suyo, amado, lo envió también a ellos, diciendo: Tendrán respeto a mi hijo.
7 Mas aquellos labradores dijeron entre sí: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle, y la heredad será nuestra.
8 Y tomándole, le mataron, y le echaron fuera de la viña.
9 ¿Qué, pues, hará el señor de la viña? Vendrá, y destruirá a los labradores, y dará su viña a otros.

La piedra que desecharon los edificadores
Ha venido a ser cabeza del ángulo;
11 El Señor ha hecho esto,
Y es cosa maravillosa a nuestros ojos?
12 Y procuraban prenderle, porque entendían que decía contra ellos aquella parábola; pero temían a la multitud, y dejándole, se fueron.
La cuestión del tributo - (Mt. 22.15-22; Lc. 20.20-26)
13 Y le enviaron algunos de los fariseos y de los herodianos, para que le sorprendiesen en alguna palabra.
14 Viniendo ellos, le dijeron: Maestro, sabemos que eres hombre veraz, y que no te cuidas de nadie; porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres, sino que con verdad enseñas el camino de Dios. ¿Es lícito dar tributo a César, o no? ¿Daremos, o no daremos?
15 Mas él, percibiendo la hipocresía de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis? Traedme la moneda para que la vea.
16 Ellos se la trajeron; y les dijo: ¿De quién es esta imagen y la inscripción? Ellos le dijeron: De César.

19 Maestro, Moisés nos escribió que si el hermano de alguno muriere y dejare esposa, pero no dejare hijos, que su hermano se case con ella, y levante descendencia a su hermano.
20 Hubo siete hermanos; el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin dejar descendencia.
21 Y el segundo se casó con ella, y murió, y tampoco dejó descendencia; y el tercero, de la misma manera.
22 Y así los siete, y no dejaron descendencia; y después de todos murió también la mujer.
23 En la resurrección, pues, cuando resuciten, ¿de cuál de ellos será ella mujer, ya que los siete la tuvieron por mujer?
24 Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: ¿No erráis por esto, porque ignoráis las Escrituras, y el poder de Dios?
25 Porque cuando resuciten de los muertos, ni se casarán ni se darán en casamiento, sino serán como los ángeles que están en los cielos.
26 Pero respecto a que los muertos resucitan, ¿no habéis leído en el libro de Moisés cómo le habló Dios en la zarza, diciendo: Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob?
27 Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino Dios de vivos; así que vosotros mucho erráis.
El gran mandamiento - (Mt. 22.34-40)

28 Acercándose uno de los escribas, que los había oído disputar, y sabía que les había respondido bien, le preguntó: ¿Cuál es el primer mandamiento de todos?
29 Jesús le respondió: El primer mandamiento de todos es: Oye, Israel; el Señor nuestro Dios, el Señor uno es.
30 Y amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. Este es el principal mandamiento.
31 Y el segundo es semejante: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. No hay otro mandamiento mayor que éstos.
32 Entonces el escriba le dijo: Bien, Maestro, verdad has dicho, que uno es Dios, y no hay otro fuera de él;
33 y el amarle con todo el corazón, con todo el entendimiento, con toda el alma, y con todas las fuerzas, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo, es más que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios.
34 Jesús entonces, viendo que había respondido sabiamente, le dijo: No estás lejos del reino de Dios. Y ya ninguno osaba preguntarle.
¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?- (Mt. 22.41-46; Lc. 20.41-44)
35 Enseñando Jesús en el templo, decía: ¿Cómo dicen los escribas que el Cristo es hijo de David?
36 Porque el mismo David dijo por el Espíritu Santo:
Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
Siéntate a mi diestra,
Hasta que ponga tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.
37 David mismo le llama Señor; ¿cómo, pues, es su hijo? Y gran multitud del pueblo le oía de buena gana.
Jesús acusa a los escribas - (Mt. 23.1-36; Lc. 11.37-54; 20.45-47)
38 Y les decía en su doctrina: Guardaos de los escribas, que gustan de andar con largas ropas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas,
39 y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;
40 que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacen largas oraciones. Estos recibirán mayor condenación.
La ofrenda de la viuda - (Lc. 21.1-4)
41 Estando Jesús sentado delante del arca de la ofrenda, miraba cómo el pueblo echaba dinero en el arca; y muchos ricos echaban mucho.
42 Y vino una viuda pobre, y echó dos blancas, o sea un cuadrante.
43 Entonces llamando a sus discípulos, les dijo: De cierto os digo que esta viuda pobre echó más que todos los que han echado en el arca;
44 porque todos han echado de lo que les sobra; pero ésta, de su pobreza echó todo lo que tenía, todo su sustento.
