Luke 3
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
5Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
John Preaches to the People
7Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
11He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
12Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
14And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
15And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
16John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
17Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
19But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
20Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
Jesus Is Baptized
21Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

A pregação de João Batista – Mt 3.1-10; Mc 1.1-6
1No décimo quinto ano do reinado de Tibério César, sendo Pôncio Pilatos governador da Judéia, Herodes tetrarca da Galiléia, seu irmão Filipe tetrarca da região da Ituréia e de Traconites, e Lisânias tetrarca de Abilene,
2sendo Anás e Caifás sumos sacerdotes, veio a palavra de Deus a João, filho de Zacarias, no deserto.
3E ele percorreu toda a circunvizinhança do Jordão, pregando o batismo de arrependimento para remissão de pecados;
4como está escrito no livro das palavras do profeta Isaías: Voz do que clama no deserto: Preparai o caminho do Senhor; endireitai as suas veredas.
5Todo vale se encherá, e se abaixará todo monte e outeiro; o que é tortuoso se endireitará, e os caminhos escabrosos se aplanarão;
6e toda a carne verá a salvação de Deus.
7João dizia, pois, às multidões que saíam para ser batizadas por ele: Raça de víboras, quem vos ensina a fugir da ira vindoura?
8Produzi, pois, frutos dignos de arrependimento; e não comeceis a dizer em vós mesmos: Temos por pai a Abrão; porque eu vos digo que até destas pedras Deus pode suscitar filhos a Abrão.
9Também já está posto o machado ã raiz das árvores; toda árvore, pois, que não produz bom fruto, é cortada e lançada no fogo.
10Ao que lhe perguntavam as multidões: Que faremos, pois?
11Respondia-lhes então: Aquele que tem duas túnicas, reparta com o que não tem nenhuma, e aquele que tem alimentos, faça o mesmo.
12Chegaram também uns publicanos para serem batizados, e perguntaram-lhe: Mestre, que havemos nós de fazer?
13Respondeu-lhes ele: Não cobreis além daquilo que vos foi prescrito.
14Interrogaram-no também uns soldados: E nós, que faremos? Disse-lhes: A ninguém queirais extorquir coisa alguma; nem deis denúncia falsa; e contentai-vos com o vosso soldo.
João dá testemunho de Cristo – Mt 3.11,12; Mc 1.7,8; João 1.19-28
15Ora, estando o povo em expectativa e arrazoando todos em seus corações a respeito de João, se porventura seria ele o Cristo,
16respondeu João a todos, dizendo: Eu, na verdade, vos batizo em água, mas vem aquele que é mais poderoso do que eu, de quem não sou digno de desatar a correia das alparcas; ele vos batizará no Espírito Santo e em fogo.
17A sua pá ele tem na mão para limpar bem a sua eira, e recolher o trigo ao seu celeiro; mas queimará a palha em fogo inextinguível.
18Assim pois, com muitas outras exortações ainda, anunciava o evangelho ao povo.
19Mas o tetrarca Herodes, sendo repreendido por ele por causa de Herodias, mulher de seu irmão, e por todas as maldades que havia feito,
20acrescentou a todas elas ainda esta, a de encerrar João no cárcere.

21Quando todo o povo fora batizado, tendo sido Jesus também batizado, e estando ele a orar, o céu se abriu;
22e o Espírito Santo desceu sobre ele em forma corpórea, como uma pomba; e ouviu-se do céu esta voz: Tu és o meu Filho amado; em ti me comprazo.

Predicación de Juan el Bautista (Mt. 3.1-12; Mr. 1.1-8; Jn. 1.19-28)
1 En el año decimoquinto del imperio de Tiberio César, siendo gobernador de Judea Poncio Pilato, y Herodes tetrarca de Galilea, y su hermano Felipe tetrarca de Iturea y de la provincia de Traconite, y Lisanias tetrarca de Abilinia,
2 y siendo sumos sacerdotes Anás y Caifás, vino palabra de Dios a Juan, hijo de Zacarías, en el desierto.
3 Y él fue por toda la región contigua al Jordán, predicando el bautismo del arrepentimiento para perdón de pecados,
4 como está escrito en el libro de las palabras del profeta Isaías, que dice:
Voz del que clama en el desierto:
Preparad el camino del Señor;
Enderezad sus sendas.
5 Todo valle se rellenará,
Y se bajará todo monte y collado;
Los caminos torcidos serán enderezados,
Y los caminos ásperos allanados;
6 Y verá toda carne la salvación de Dios.
7 Y decía a las multitudes que salían para ser bautizadas por él: !!Oh generación de víboras! ¿Quién os enseñó a huir de la ira venidera?
8 Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, y no comencéis a decir dentro de vosotros mismos: Tenemos a Abraham por padre; porque os digo que Dios puede levantar hijos a Abraham aun de estas piedras.
9 Y ya también el hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; por tanto, todo árbol que no da buen fruto se corta y se echa en el fuego.
10 Y la gente le preguntaba, diciendo: Entonces, ¿qué haremos?
11 Y respondiendo, les dijo: El que tiene dos túnicas, dé al que no tiene; y el que tiene qué comer, haga lo mismo.
12 Vinieron también unos publicanos para ser bautizados, y le dijeron: Maestro, ¿qué haremos?
13 Él les dijo: No exijáis más de lo que os está ordenado.
14 También le preguntaron unos soldados, diciendo: Y nosotros, ¿qué haremos? Y les dijo: No hagáis extorsión a nadie, ni calumniéis; y contentaos con vuestro salario.
15 Como el pueblo estaba en expectativa, preguntándose todos en sus corazones si acaso Juan sería el Cristo,
16 respondió Juan, diciendo a todos: Yo a la verdad os bautizo en agua; pero viene uno más poderoso que yo, de quien no soy digno de desatar la correa de su calzado; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego.
17 Su aventador está en su mano, y limpiará su era, y recogerá el trigo en su granero, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
18 Con estas y otras muchas exhortaciones anunciaba las buenas nuevas al pueblo.
19 Entonces Herodes el tetrarca, siendo reprendido por Juan a causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano, y de todas las maldades que Herodes había hecho,
20 sobre todas ellas, añadió además esta: encerró a Juan en la cárcel.
El bautismo de Jesús (Mt. 3.13-17; Mr. 1.9-11)
21 Aconteció que cuando todo el pueblo se bautizaba, también Jesús fue bautizado; y orando, el cielo se abrió,
22 y descendió el Espíritu Santo sobre él en forma corporal, como paloma, y vino una voz del cielo que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado; en ti tengo complacencia.
