Matthew 23
Woe to the Scribes and Pharisees
1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Jesus censura os escribas e os fariseus - Mc 12.38-40; Lc 11.27-54; 20.45-47
1Então falou Jesus às multidões e aos seus discípulos, dizendo:
2Na cadeira de Moisés se assentam os escribas e fariseus.
3Portanto, tudo o que vos disserem, isso fazei e observai; mas não façais conforme as suas obras; porque dizem e não praticam.
4Pois atam fardos pesados e difíceis de suportar, e os põem aos ombros dos homens; mas eles mesmos nem com o dedo querem movê-los.
5Todas as suas obras eles fazem a fim de serem vistos pelos homens; pois alargam os seus filactérios, e aumentam as franjas dos seus mantos;
6gostam do primeiro lugar nos banquetes, das primeiras cadeiras nas sinagogas,
7das saudações nas praças, e de serem chamados pelos homens: Rabi.
8Vós, porém, não queirais ser chamados Rabi; porque um só é o vosso Mestre, e todos vós sois irmãos.
9E a ninguém sobre a terra chameis vosso pai; porque um só é o vosso Pai, aquele que está nos céus.
10Nem queirais ser chamados guias; porque um só é o vosso Guia, que é o Cristo.
11Mas o maior dentre vós há de ser vosso servo.
12Qualquer, pois, que a si mesmo se exaltar, será humilhado; e qualquer que a si mesmo se humilhar, será exaltado.
Várias advertências de Jesus
13Mas ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque fechais aos homens o reino dos céus; pois nem vós entrais, nem aos que entrariam permitis entrar.
14[Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque devorais as casas das viúvas e sob pretexto fazeis longas orações; por isso recebereis maior condenação.]
15Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque percorreis o mar e a terra para fazer um prosélito; e, depois de o terdes feito, o tornais duas vezes mais filho do inferno do que vós.
16Ai de vós, guias cegos! que dizeis: Quem jurar pelo ouro do santuário, esse fica obrigado ao que jurou.
17Insensatos e cegos! Pois qual é o maior; o ouro, ou o santuário que santifica o ouro?
18E: Quem jurar pelo altar, isso nada é; mas quem jurar pela oferta que está sobre o altar, esse fica obrigado ao que jurou.
19Cegos! Pois qual é maior: a oferta, ou o altar que santifica a oferta?
20Portanto, quem jurar pelo altar jura por ele e por tudo quanto sobre ele está;
21e quem jurar pelo santuário jura por ele e por aquele que nele habita;
22e quem jurar pelo céu jura pelo trono de Deus e por aquele que nele está assentado.
23Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque dais o dízimo da hortelã, do endro e do cominho, e tendes omitido o que há de mais importante na lei, a saber, a justiça, a misericórdia e a fé; estas coisas, porém, devíeis fazer, sem omitir aquelas.
24Guias cegos! que coais um mosquito, e engulis um camelo.
25Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque limpais o exterior do copo e do prato, mas por dentro estão cheios de rapina e de intemperança.
26Fariseu cego! limpa primeiro o interior do copo, para que também o exterior se torne limpo.
27Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque sois semelhantes aos sepulcros caiados, que por fora realmente parecem formosos, mas por dentro estão cheios de ossos e de toda imundícia.
28Assim também vós exteriormente pareceis justos aos homens, mas por dentro estais cheios de hipocrisia e de iniquidade.
29Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! porque edificais os sepulcros dos profetas e adornais os monumentos dos justos,
30e dizeis: Se tivéssemos vivido nos dias de nossos pais, não teríamos sido cúmplices no derramar o sangue dos profetas.
31Assim, vós testemunhais contra vós mesmos que sois filhos daqueles que mataram os profetas.
32Enchei vós, pois, a medida de vossos pais.
33Serpentes, raça de víboras! como escapareis da condenação do inferno?
34Portanto, eis que eu vos envio profetas, sábios e escribas: e a uns deles matareis e crucificareis; e a outros os perseguireis de cidade em cidade;
35para que sobre vós caia todo o sangue justo, que foi derramado sobre a terra, desde o sangue de Abel, o justo, até o sangue de Zacarias, filho de Baraquias, que mataste entre o santuário e o altar.
36Em verdade vos digo que todas essas coisas hão de vir sobre esta geração.

37Jerusalém, Jerusalém, que matas os profetas, apedrejas os que a ti são enviados! quantas vezes quis eu ajuntar os teus filhos, como a galinha ajunta os seus pintos debaixo das asas, e não o quiseste!
38Eis aí abandonada vos é a vossa casa.
39Pois eu vos declaro que desde agora de modo nenhum me vereis, até que digais: Bendito aquele que vem em nome do Senhor.

Jesús acusa a escribas y fariseos (Mr. 12.38-40; Lc. 11.37-54; 20.45-47)
1 Entonces habló Jesús a la gente y a sus discípulos, diciendo:
2 En la cátedra de Moisés se sientan los escribas y los fariseos.
3 Así que, todo lo que os digan que guardéis, guardadlo y hacedlo; mas no hagáis conforme a sus obras, porque dicen, y no hacen.
4 Porque atan cargas pesadas y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; pero ellos ni con un dedo quieren moverlas.
5 Antes, hacen todas sus obras para ser vistos por los hombres. Pues ensanchan sus filacterias, y extienden los flecos de sus mantos;
6 y aman los primeros asientos en las cenas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas,
7 y las salutaciones en las plazas, y que los hombres los llamen: Rabí, Rabí.
8 Pero vosotros no queráis que os llamen Rabí; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo, y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
9 Y no llaméis padre vuestro a nadie en la tierra; porque uno es vuestro Padre, el que está en los cielos.
10 Ni seáis llamados maestros; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo.
11 El que es el mayor de vosotros, sea vuestro siervo.
12 Porque el que se enaltece será humillado, y el que se humilla será enaltecido.)
13 Mas !!ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres; pues ni entráis vosotros, ni dejáis entrar a los que están entrando.
14 !!Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque devoráis las casas de las viudas, y como pretexto hacéis largas oraciones; por esto recibiréis mayor condenación.
15 !!Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque recorréis mar y tierra para hacer un prosélito, y una vez hecho, le hacéis dos veces más hijo del infierno que vosotros.
16 !!Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos! que decís: Si alguno jura por el templo, no es nada; pero si alguno jura por el oro del templo, es deudor.
17 !!Insensatos y ciegos! porque ¿cuál es mayor, el oro, o el templo que santifica al oro?
18 También decís: Si alguno jura por el altar, no es nada; pero si alguno jura por la ofrenda que está sobre él, es deudor.
19 !!Necios y ciegos! porque ¿cuál es mayor, la ofrenda, o el altar que santifica la ofrenda?
20 Pues el que jura por el altar, jura por él, y por todo lo que está sobre él;
21 y el que jura por el templo, jura por él, y por el que lo habita;
22 y el que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios, y por aquel que está sentado en él.
23 !!Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque diezmáis la menta y el eneldo y el comino, y dejáis lo más importante de la ley: la justicia, la misericordia y la fe. Esto era necesario hacer, sin dejar de hacer aquello.
24 !!Guías ciegos, que coláis el mosquito, y tragáis el camello!
25 !!Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque limpiáis lo de fuera del vaso y del plato, pero por dentro estáis llenos de robo y de injusticia.
26 !!Fariseo ciego! Limpia primero lo de dentro del vaso y del plato, para que también lo de fuera sea limpio.
27 !!Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque sois semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados, que por fuera, a la verdad, se muestran hermosos, mas por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda inmundicia.
28 Así también vosotros por fuera, a la verdad, os mostráis justos a los hombres, pero por dentro estáis llenos de hipocresía e iniquidad.
29 !!Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas, y adornáis los monumentos de los justos,
30 y decís: Si hubiésemos vivido en los días de nuestros padres, no hubiéramos sido sus cómplices en la sangre de los profetas.
31 Así que dais testimonio contra vosotros mismos, de que sois hijos de aquellos que mataron a los profetas.
32 !!Vosotros también llenad la medida de vuestros padres!
33 !!Serpientes, generación de víboras! ¿Cómo escaparéis de la condenación del infierno?
34 Por tanto, he aquí yo os envío profetas y sabios y escribas; y de ellos, a unos mataréis y crucificaréis, y a otros azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas, y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad;
35 para que venga sobre vosotros toda la sangre justa que se ha derramado sobre la tierra, desde la sangre de Abel el justo hasta la sangre de Zacarías hijo de Berequías, a quien matasteis entre el templo y el altar.
36 De cierto os digo que todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.

38 He aquí vuestra casa os es dejada desierta.
39 Porque os digo que desde ahora no me veréis, hasta que digáis: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor.
