John the Baptist Beheaded
1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
3For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
4For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
9And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
12And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
Feeding the Five Thousand
13When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
15And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
16But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
17And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18He said, Bring them hither to me.
19And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
21And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
Jesus Walks on the Sea
22And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Many Touch Him and Are Made Well
34And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
35And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
36And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

A morte de João Batista (Mc 6.14-29; Lc 9.7-9)
1Naquele tempo Herodes, o tetrarca, ouviu a fama de Jesus,
2e disse aos seus cortesãos: Este é João, o Batista; ele ressuscitou dentre os mortos, e por isso estes poderes milagrosos operam nele.
3Pois Herodes havia prendido a João, e, maniatando-o, o guardara no cárcere, por causa de Herodias, mulher de seu irmão Felipe;
4porque João lhe dizia: Não te é lícito possuí-la.
5E queria matá-lo, mas temia o povo; porque o tinham como profeta.
6Festejando-se, porém, o dia natalício de Herodes, a filha de Herodias dançou no meio dos convivas, e agradou a Herodes,
7pelo que este prometeu com juramento dar-lhe tudo o que pedisse.
8E instigada por sua mãe, disse ela: Dá-me aqui num prato a cabeça de João, o Batista.
9Entristeceu-se, então, o rei; mas, por causa do juramento, e dos que estavam à mesa com ele, ordenou que se lhe desse,
10e mandou degolar a João no cárcere;
11e a cabeça foi trazida num prato, e dada à jovem, e ela a levou para a sua mãe.
12Então vieram os seus discípulos, levaram o corpo e o sepultaram; e foram anunciá-lo a Jesus.
A primeira multiplicação dos pães (Mc 6.30-44; Lc 9.10-17; Jo 6.1-14)
13Jesus, ouvindo isto, retirou-se dali num barco, para um, lugar deserto, à parte; e quando as multidões o souberam, seguiram-no a pé desde as cidades.
14E ele, ao desembarcar, viu uma grande multidão; e, compadecendo-se dela, curou os seus enfermos.
15Chegada a tarde, aproximaram-se dele os discípulos, dizendo: O lugar é deserto, e a hora é já passada; despede as multidões, para que vão às aldeias, e comprem o que comer.
16Jesus, porém, lhes disse: Não precisam ir embora; dai-lhes vós de comer.
17Então eles lhe disseram: Não temos aqui senão cinco pães e dois peixes.
18E ele disse: trazei-mos aqui.
19Tendo mandado às multidões que se reclinassem sobre a relva, tomou os cinco pães e os dois peixes e, erguendo os olhos ao céu, os abençoou; e partindo os pães, deu-os aos discípulos, e os discípulos às multidões.
20Todos comeram e se fartaram; e dos pedaços que sobejaram levantaram doze cestos cheios.
21Ora, os que comeram foram cerca de cinco mil homens, além de mulheres e crianças.
Jesus anda por sobre o mar (Mc 6.45-52; Jo 6.15-21)
22Logo em seguida obrigou os seus discípulos a entrar no barco, e passar adiante dele para o outro lado, enquanto ele despedia as multidões.
23Tendo-as despedido, subiu ao monte para orar à parte. Ao anoitecer, estava ali sozinho.
24Entrementes, o barco já estava a muitos estádios da terra, açoitado pelas ondas; porque o vento era contrário.
25Â quarta vigília da noite, foi Jesus ter com eles, andando sobre o mar.
26Os discípulos, porém, ao vê-lo andando sobre o mar, assustaram-se e disseram: É um fantasma. E gritaram de medo.
27Jesus, porém, imediatamente lhes falou, dizendo: Tende ânimo; sou eu; não temais.
28Respondeu-lhe Pedro: Senhor! se és tu, manda-me ir ter contigo sobre as águas.
29Disse-lhe ele: Vem. Pedro, descendo do barco, e andando sobre as águas, foi ao encontro de Jesus.
30Mas, sentindo o vento, teve medo; e, começando a submergir, clamou: Senhor, salva-me.
31Imediatamente estendeu Jesus a mão, segurou-o, e disse-lhe: Homem de pouca fé, por que duvidaste?
32E logo que subiram para o barco, o vento cessou.
33Então os que estavam no barco adoraram-no, dizendo: Verdadeiramente tu és Filho de Deus.
Jesus em Genezaré (Mc 6.53-56)
34Ora, terminada a travessia, chegaram à terra em Genezaré.
35Quando os homens daquele lugar o reconheceram, mandaram por toda aquela circunvizinhança, e trouxeram-lhe todos os enfermos;
36e rogaram-lhe que apenas os deixasse tocar a orla do seu manto; e todos os que a tocaram ficaram curados.

Muerte de Juan el Bautista - (Mr. 6.14-29; Lc. 9.7-9)
1 En aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,
2 y dijo a sus criados: Este es Juan el Bautista; ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso actúan en él estos poderes.
3 Porque Herodes había prendido a Juan, y le había encadenado y metido en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;
4 porque Juan le decía: No te es lícito tenerla.
5 Y Herodes quería matarle, pero temía al pueblo; porque tenían a Juan por profeta.
6 Pero cuando se celebraba el cumpleaños de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó a Herodes,
7 por lo cual éste le prometió con juramento darle todo lo que pidiese.
8 Ella, instruida primero por su madre, dijo: Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.
9 Entonces el rey se entristeció; pero a causa del juramento, y de los que estaban con él a la mesa, mandó que se la diesen,
10 y ordenó decapitar a Juan en la cárcel.
11 Y fue traída su cabeza en un plato, y dada a la muchacha; y ella la presentó a su madre.
12 Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, y tomaron el cuerpo y lo enterraron; y fueron y dieron las nuevas a Jesús.
Alimentación de los cinco mil - (Mr. 6.30-44; Lc. 9.10-17; Jn. 6.1-14)
13 Oyéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí en una barca a un lugar desierto y apartado; y cuando la gente lo oyó, le siguió a pie desde las ciudades.
14 Y saliendo Jesús, vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó a los que de ellos estaban enfermos.
15 Cuando anochecía, se acercaron a él sus discípulos, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y la hora ya pasada; despide a la multitud, para que vayan por las aldeas y compren de comer.
16 Jesús les dijo: No tienen necesidad de irse; dadles vosotros de comer.
17 Y ellos dijeron: No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos peces.
18 El les dijo: Traédmelos acá.
19 Entonces mandó a la gente recostarse sobre la hierba; y tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, bendijo, y partió y dio los panes a los discípulos, y los discípulos a la multitud.
20 Y comieron todos, y se saciaron; y recogieron lo que sobró de los pedazos, doce cestas llenas.
21 Y los que comieron fueron como cinco mil hombres, sin contar las mujeres y los niños.

22 En seguida Jesús hizo a sus discípulos entrar en la barca e ir delante de él a la otra ribera, entre tanto que él despedía a la multitud.
23 Despedida la multitud, subió al monte a orar aparte; y cuando llegó la noche, estaba allí solo.
24 Y ya la barca estaba en medio del mar, azotada por las olas; porque el viento era contrario.
25 Mas a la cuarta vigilia de la noche, Jesús vino a ellos andando sobre el mar.
26 Y los discípulos, viéndole andar sobre el mar, se turbaron, diciendo: !!Un fantasma! Y dieron voces de miedo.
27 Pero en seguida Jesús les habló, diciendo: !!Tened ánimo; yo soy, no temáis!
28 Entonces le respondió Pedro, y dijo: Señor, si eres tú, manda que yo vaya a ti sobre las aguas.
29 Y él dijo: Ven. Y descendiendo Pedro de la barca, andaba sobre las aguas para ir a Jesús.
30 Pero al ver el fuerte viento, tuvo miedo; y comenzando a hundirse, dio voces, diciendo: !!Señor, sálvame!
31 Al momento Jesús, extendiendo la mano, asió de él, y le dijo: !!Hombre de poca fe! ¿Por qué dudaste?
32 Y cuando ellos subieron en la barca, se calmó el viento.
33 Entonces los que estaban en la barca vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios.
Jesús sana a los enfermos en Genesaret - (Mr. 6.53-56)
34 Y terminada la travesía, vinieron a tierra de Genesaret.
35 Cuando le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron noticia por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron a él todos los enfermos;
36 y le rogaban que les dejase tocar solamente el borde de su manto; y todos los que lo tocaron, quedaron sanos.
