Jesus' Authority Questioned
1And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
2And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
3And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
5And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
6But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
7And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
8And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
Parable of the Vine-growers (or The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers)
9Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
11And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Tribute to Caesar - The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?
19And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
26And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection? Is There a Resurrection?
27Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
28Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32Last of all the woman died also.
33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
40And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?
41And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
42And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
43Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
Beware of the Scribes
45Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
46Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

A autoridade de Jesus e o batismo de João – Mt 21.23-27; Mc 11.27-33
1Num desses dias, quando Jesus ensinava o povo no templo, e anunciava o evangelho, sobrevieram os principais sacerdotes e os escribas, com os anciãos.
2e falaram-lhe deste modo: Dize-nos, com que autoridade fazes tu estas coisas? Ou, quem é o que te deu esta autoridade?
3Respondeu-lhes ele: Eu também vos farei uma pergunta; dizei-me, pois:
4O batismo de João era do céu ou dos homens?
5Ao que eles arrazoavam entre si: Se dissermos: do céu, ele dirá: Por que não crestes?
6Mas, se dissermos: Dos homens, todo o povo nos apedrejará; pois está convencido de que João era profeta.
7Responderam, pois, que não sabiam donde era.
8Replicou-lhes Jesus: Nem eu vos digo com que autoridade faço estas coisas.
A parábola dos lavradores maus – Mt 21.33-46; Mc 12.1-12
9Começou então a dizer ao povo esta parábola: Um homem plantou uma vinha, arrendou-a a uns lavradores, e ausentou-se do país por muito tempo.
10No tempo próprio mandou um servo aos lavradores, para que lhe dessem dos frutos da vinha; mas os lavradores, espancando-o, mandaram-no embora de mãos vazias.
11Tornou a mandar outro servo; mas eles espancaram também a este e, afrontando-o, mandaram-no embora de mãos vazias.
12E mandou ainda um terceiro; mas feriram também a este e lançaram-no fora.
13Disse então o senhor da vinha: Que farei? Mandarei o meu filho amado; a ele talvez respeitarão.
14Mas quando os lavradores o viram, arrazoaram entre si, dizendo: Este é o herdeiro; matemo-lo, para que a herança seja nossa.
15E lançando-o fora da vinha, o mataram. Que lhes fará, pois, o senhor da vinha?
16Virá e destruirá esses lavradores, e dará a vinha a outros. Ouvindo eles isso, disseram: Tal não aconteça!
17Mas Jesus, olhando para eles, disse: Pois, que quer dizer isto que está escrito: A pedra que os edificadores rejeitaram, essa foi posta como pedra angular?
18Todo o que cair sobre esta pedra será despedaçado; mas aquele sobre quem ela cair será reduzido a pó.
A questão do tributo – Mt 22.15-22; Mc 12.13-17
19Ainda na mesma hora os escribas e os principais sacerdotes, percebendo que contra eles proferira essa parábola, procuraram deitar-lhe as mãos, mas temeram o povo.
20E, aguardando oportunidade, mandaram espias, os quais se fingiam justos, para o apanharem em alguma palavra, e o entregarem ã jurisdição e ã autoridade do governador.
21Estes, pois, o interrogaram, dizendo: Mestre, sabemos que falas e ensinas retamente, e que não consideras a aparência da pessoa, mas ensinas segundo a verdade o caminho de Deus;
22é-nos lícito dar tributo a César, ou não?
23Mas Jesus, percebendo a astúcia deles, disse-lhes:
24Mostrai-me um denário. De quem é a imagem e a inscrição que ele tem? Responderam: De César.
25Disse-lhes então: Dai, pois, a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus.
26E não puderam apanhá-lo em palavra alguma diante do povo; e admirados da sua resposta, calaram-se.
Os saduceus e a ressurreição – Mt 22.23-33; Mc 12.18-27
27Chegaram então alguns dos saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, e perguntaram-lhe:
28Mestre, Moisés nos deixou escrito que se morrer alguém, tendo mulher mas não tendo filhos, o irmão dele case com a viúva, e suscite descendência ao irmão.
29Havia, pois, sete irmãos. O primeiro casou-se e morreu sem filhos;
30então o segundo, e depois o terceiro, casaram com a viúva;
31e assim todos os sete, e morreram, sem deixar filhos.
32Depois morreu também a mulher.
33Portanto, na ressurreição, de qual deles será ela esposa, pois os sete por esposa a tiveram?
34Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Os filhos deste mundo casaram-se e dão-se em casamento;
35mas os que são julgados dignos de alcançar o mundo vindouro, e a ressurreição dentre os mortos, nem se casam nem se dão em casamento;
36porque já não podem mais morrer; pois são iguais aos anjos, e são filhos de Deus, sendo filhos da ressurreição.
37Mas que os mortos hão de ressurgir, o próprio Moisés o mostrou, na passagem a respeito da sarça, quando chama ao Senhor; Deus de Abraão, e Deus de Isaque, e Deus de Jacó.
38Ora, ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos; porque para ele todos vivem.
39Responderam alguns dos escribas: Mestre, disseste bem.
40Não ousavam, pois, perguntar-lhe mais coisa alguma.
O Cristo, Filho de Davi – Mt 22.41-46; Mc 12.35-37
41Jesus, porém, lhes perguntou: Como dizem que o Cristo é filho de Davi?
42Pois o próprio Davi diz no livro dos Salmos: Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te à minha direita,
43até que eu ponha os teus inimigos por escabelo dos teus pés.
44Logo Davi lhe chama Senhor como, pois, é ele seu filho?
Jesus censura os escribas – Mt 23.1-12; Mc 12.38-40
45Enquanto todo o povo o ouvia, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos:
46Guardai-vos dos escribas, que querem andar com vestes compridas, e gostam das saudações nas praças, dos primeiros assentos nas sinagogas, e dos primeiros lugares nos banquetes;
47que devoram as casas das viúvas, fazendo, por pretexto, longas orações; estes hão de receber maior condenação.

La autoridad de Jesús - (Mt. 21.23-27; Mr. 11.27-33)
1 Sucedió un día, que enseñando Jesús al pueblo en el templo, y anunciando el evangelio, llegaron los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, con los ancianos,
2 y le hablaron diciendo: Dinos: ¿con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿o quién es el que te ha dado esta autoridad?
3 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Os haré yo también una pregunta; respondedme:
4 El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres?
5 Entonces ellos discutían entre sí, diciendo: Si decimos, del cielo, dirá: ¿Por qué, pues, no le creísteis?
6 Y si decimos, de los hombres, todo el pueblo nos apedreará; porque están persuadidos de que Juan era profeta.
7 Y respondieron que no sabían de dónde fuese.
8 Entonces Jesús les dijo: Yo tampoco os diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.
Los labradores malvados - (Mt. 21.33-44; Mr. 12.1-11)
9 Comenzó luego a decir al pueblo esta parábola: Un hombre plantó una viña,(A) la arrendó a labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.
10 Y a su tiempo envió un siervo a los labradores, para que le diesen del fruto de la viña; pero los labradores le golpearon, y le enviaron con las manos vacías.
11 Volvió a enviar otro siervo; mas ellos a éste también, golpeado y afrentado, le enviaron con las manos vacías.
12 Volvió a enviar un tercer siervo; mas ellos también a éste echaron fuera, herido.
13 Entonces el señor de la viña dijo: ¿Qué haré? Enviaré a mi hijo amado; quizá cuando le vean a él, le tendrán respeto.
14 Mas los labradores, al verle, discutían entre sí, diciendo: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle, para que la heredad sea nuestra.
15 Y le echaron fuera de la viña, y le mataron. ¿Qué, pues, les hará el señor de la viña?
16 Vendrá y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará su viña a otros. Cuando ellos oyeron esto, dijeron: !!Dios nos libre!
17 Pero él, mirándolos, dijo: ¿Qué, pues, es lo que está escrito:
La piedra que desecharon los edificadores
Ha venido a ser cabeza del ángulo?(B) m
18 Todo el que cayere sobre aquella piedra, será quebrantado; mas sobre quien ella cayere, le desmenuzará.
La cuestión del tributo - (Mt. 21.45-46; 22.15-22; Mr. 12.12-17)
19 Procuraban los principales sacerdotes y los escribas echarle mano en aquella hora, porque comprendieron que contra ellos había dicho esta parábola; pero temieron al pueblo.
20 Y acechándole enviaron espías que se simulasen justos, a fin de sorprenderle en alguna palabra, para entregarle al poder y autoridad del gobernador.
21 Y le preguntaron, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que dices y enseñas rectamente, y que no haces acepción de persona, sino que enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad.
22 ¿Nos es lícito dar tributo a César, o no?
23 Mas él, comprendiendo la astucia de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis?
24 Mostradme la moneda. ¿De quién tiene la imagen y la inscripción? Y respondiendo dijeron: De César.
25 Entonces les dijo: Pues dad a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.
26 Y no pudieron sorprenderle en palabra alguna delante del pueblo, sino que maravillados de su respuesta, callaron.
La pregunta sobre la resurrección - (Mt. 22.23-33; Mr. 12.18-27)
27 Llegando entonces algunos de los saduceos, los cuales niegan haber resurrección, le preguntaron,
28 diciendo: Maestro, Moisés nos escribió: Si el hermano de alguno muriere teniendo mujer, y no dejare hijos, que su hermano se case con ella, y levante descendencia a su hermano.
29 Hubo, pues, siete hermanos; y el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin hijos.
30 Y la tomó el segundo, el cual también murió sin hijos.
31 La tomó el tercero, y así todos los siete, y murieron sin dejar descendencia.
32 Finalmente murió también la mujer.
33 En la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer, ya que los siete la tuvieron por mujer?
34 Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Los hijos de este siglo se casan, y se dan en casamiento;
35 mas los que fueren tenidos por dignos de alcanzar aquel siglo y la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni se casan, ni se dan en casamiento.
36 Porque no pueden ya más morir, pues son iguales a los ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, al ser hijos de la resurrección.
37 Pero en cuanto a que los muertos han de resucitar, aun Moisés lo enseñó en el pasaje de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor, Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob.
38 Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues para él todos viven.
39 Respondiéndole algunos de los escribas, dijeron: Maestro, bien has dicho.
40 Y no osaron preguntarle nada más.
¿De quién es hijo el Cristo? - (Mt. 22.41-46; Mr. 12.35-37)
41 Entonces él les dijo: ¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?
42 Pues el mismo David dice en el libro de los Salmos:
Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
Siéntate a mi diestra,
43 Hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.(F)
44 David, pues, le llama Señor; ¿cómo entonces es su hijo?
Jesús acusa a los escribas - (Mt. 23.1-36; Mr. 12.38-40; Lc. 11.37-54)
45 Y oyéndole todo el pueblo, dijo a sus discípulos:
46 Guardaos de los escribas, que gustan de andar con ropas largas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;
47 que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacen largas oraciones; éstos recibirán mayor condenación.
